Iuliana Dutkay
BA, MA, MES (Candidate)

 

Iuliana is completing her Master in Environmental Studies with a diploma in Business and the Environment. She has a background in advertising and an international experience. Throughout the last eight years she planned and managed communication strategies to support the marketing of brands ranging from Canon, to L'Oréal Paris and MasterCard. After completing her bachelor's degree in Journalism at Bucharest University, Iuliana got a scholarship to study at Emerson College in Boston, where she obtained her master's degree in Marketing Communication. Before moving to Toronto, Iuliana worked five years for Marketel/McCann Erickson ad agency in Montréal. Her interests include corporate social responsibility, business ethics, certification systems and eco-labels.

 

Elliot Grundmanis
BHk, MBA (Candidate)

Elliot is currently enrolled in the MBA program at the Schulich School of Business at York University where he is specializing in Sustainability and Real Property Development. Before moving to Toronto for school, he was the Operations Manager for Zipcar Vancouver, the largest car-sharing company in the world. While working for Zipcar, Elliot become very interested in sustainable business practices and the huge potential for creating more environmentally and economically efficient organizations.. Excerpts of his website, The Sustainable Boardroom, are published in a monthly column for The Insider school newspaper. The recipient of the Seymour Schulich Entrance Scholarship, Elliot is also a member of Net Impact and the Schulich Real Property Association.

 

Adrienne Petersohn
BA, MBA (Candidate)

Adrienne is completing her Masters of Business Administration at the Schulich School of Business while concurrently pursing a Graduate Diploma in Business and Sustainability.  Adrienne has an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature.  She has over six years of career expertise in marketing and advertising, working in a range of industries, including financial, retail, telecommunications and publishing.  Adrienne’s research interests include carbon disclosure reporting and carbon markets. 

 

Daniel Woolfson
 BSc, MES (Candidate)

Daniel is a Master’s candidate in Environmental Studies specializing in Urban Planning and has plans to enter a concurrent MES/JD program through York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School.  After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Western Ontario, Daniel began working for the City of Toronto with the Planning and Growth Management Committee in an effort to help further Toronto’s sustainability programs.  Daniel brings several years of volunteer experience with various non-profit organizations looking to enhance sustainability around the GTA.

 

Vikram Puppala
 MSc, IMBA  (Candidate)

Vikram Puppala is an International MBA student at the Schulich School of Business, York University, specializing in Business & Sustainability and Economics. He is six sigma greenbelt certified and has over 7 years of experience in analytics, research and data analysis in logistics, risk and pricing functions.  He is experienced in leading sustainability initiatives by developing tools and methods to measure and reduce carbon footprints.  Prior to moving to Toronto, he worked for Penske Logistics' Engineering group, developing tools and methods to measure trasnportation and warehouse carbon footprints for logistics customers.  Vikram plans to use his analytical skills to help clients in measuring their carbon footprint and research new sustainability focused markets and opportunities.

 

Adam Zendel
 MSc, MES (Candidate)

Adam is currently pursuing a Masters' Degree in Environmental Studies at York University with a specialization in Urban Planning. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from York University and is the 2009/2010 Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) Student Delegate, representing planning students from across Ontario on OPPI Council. He has worked for a private development and consulting company assisting in tender and RFP preparation for a number of Federal, Provincial and Municipal projects.  Adam’s interests include sustainability in planning, property development and management as well as sustainability in retail operations. Adam is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the American Planning Association (APA), the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the York University Planning Students Association (PLANit@York).

 

 

Sama Bassidj
 BES, MES (Candidate)

 

 

Sama Bassidj is a Master's candidate in Environmental Studies with a focus on Urban and Regional Food Systems Planning. She completed an Honours BES degree with certificates in both Advanced French Proficiency and Community Arts Practice. With both local and international experience in NGO capacity building and sustainable community development, she has worked with a diversity of groups on environmental, social justice and community arts initiatives. Through an internship with the Foundation for the Support of Women's Work in Istanbul, Turkey, she facilitated the development and planning of sustainability programs within the organization, including the inception of a food literacy project. Sama's current research interests include the intersections of community food systems, policy development and urban planning.

 

 

Michael Charendoff
 BA, MES (Candidate)

 


 

Michael Charendoff is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Environmental Studies with specializations in business and environment and sustainability education. After completing an Honours Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in International Development Studies, Michael worked in the fundraising field, advocating and fundraising for several environmental and social justice non-governmental organizations. While working as the volunteer coordinator at an environmental education retreat centre in Costa Rica, Michael learned about, and developed a passion for, the unique challenges and opportunities of operating and growing a values-driven sustainable business. Michael is currently active in local community-based environmental and social justice organizations.

Rachel Paul
 BA, MBA (Candidate)
Rachel Paul is an MBA student at the Schulich School of Business, specializing in Business & Sustainability and Strategic Management. She has over 6 years of diverse experience in the non-profit and private sectors working in socially responsible investment, social housing, community development, and financial investment. Rachel holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Management Economics in Industry and Finance from the University of Guelph. For the past two years, she has worked in social investment for MSCI Inc. (formerly RiskMetrics and Innovest). Through this role, Rachel conducts research, writes reports and benchmarks companies on how they manage environmental, social and governance risks. She is experienced in developing methodologies to quantify intangible key performance indicators to accurately evaluate a company’s sustainability risk exposure and management performance. Prior to working for MSCI, Rachel worked in social housing in Johannesburg, South Africa through an international internship with Rooftops Canada. She was responsible for managing an investigation into shared ownership, a funding mechanism whereby low-income earners can afford to participate in home ownership, and also led some community development initiatives.
